I don't think they're particularly chav-ish, just incredibly horrible. there are so many horrible possibilities: water/ball in mouth, choke/fire ball and water out, soaking the nearest unsuspecting bystanders, wasted person drinking the water, horrible water spilling on soft furnishing and not being able to get the smell out for days. i used to do them but i gave up because it was just much nicer avoiding the prospect of shotties entirely.
Pure bongs are the way, full flavour and milky hit.

UK: Swansea Crown Court Hears How Pembroke Dock Cannabis
Western Telegraph, 12 Jul 2010 - A Pembroke Dock man who has campaigned for the legalisation of cannabis for medical purposes for the last 15 years has turned over a new leaf, a judge heard on Friday. Eric Mann, a retired oil refinery supervisor, served two prison sentences while taking on the government in a bid for those suffering chronic pain to be allowed to take cannabis for pain relief.
