Cannabis campaigner from Plymouth in court on drugs charges.

Source: Plymouth Herald

Date: June 13 2008

A CANNABIS campaigner from Plymouth has appeared in court charged with growing the Class C drug and supplying it to others.

Stuart Wyatt, 36, appeared in custody on crutches before city magistrates yesterday after being arrested on Thursday.

Wyatt, from St Mary Street, Stonehouse, suffers from an as yet undiagnosed condition and has publicly claimed in the past that cannabis is the only remedy to relieve his crippling pain. Standing before magistrates Wyatt entered “no plea” to a charge of producing a quantity of cannabis on June 12.

He entered a not guilty plea to a second charge that he supplied cannabis to various people between January 1 and June 12 this year.

In the past Wyatt has lobbied the Government by letter, phone and email to protest against the ban on medicinal cannabis use.

He also launched the website www.humedi.org.uk which calls for a public debate on the use of the drug.

At one stage he challenged the police to arrest him saying he couldn't and wouldn't give up the drug.

Magistrates offered to try the case against Wyatt but he exercised his right and elected to be tried by a jury at crown court.

He was released on bail with the condition that he lived and slept at the address he gave to the court. Wyatt was told to return to the magistrates court on August 8 for committal proceedings to the crown court.
