Ok - here goes the next stage ....

So you have got some plants and they are growing - if they are males or hermaphrodites you want to get rid of them so how do you go about sexing them...?
Well - there are a few techniques and a couple of things to remember:
1) If you are going for a rotational system, you only need one mother for each strain you are going to produce. I.e. you will take one (female) plant from your crop and use this to produce the next generation (it will be forever kept in veg under > 12hr light). So, it is worth getting this right as it's going to be your next crop

2) If you have a good eye, you can recognise females by a pair of pistils which emerge from under each leaf pair - there is a good picture
here [weedfarmer.com] 3) Or... when they are about 1 foot, switch them to 12/12 and watch every day for appearance of male flowers - you risk some pollination this way.
4) If you really feel like the effort - you can cover one branch for 12/12 or less (light) and that branch will mature under that cycle. It's a real pain and not what I would recommend, any light leakage will stop flowering.
You will know when to fertilise because the plants will start to go yellow. It is worth watching this happen once so you can recognise the symptoms in later crops. Top up with any off the shelf neuts with the correct
npk.
If you are using soil like StickyFingers suggested, you will probably only need to top up around month 2.

BTW: You can avoid all this hassle by buying
feminized seeds - you still risk hermaphrodites but at least you don't get any males.
