For this grow I'm planning to add some ventilation i was thinking of having around 5 passive intakes and a Vents TT Inline 2 Speed Fan (http://starlitesystems.co.uk/shopping/index.php?id=102) but do i need to add a ventilation kit (far out of my price range but I'm sure I could raise the cash)

I think with the summer temps and my HPS in cool tempratures keeping the grow room at 27 degrees some ventilation will be required.

With the fan I'm guessing that gets attached to a duct run if so i was thinking of running the duct from the room to a open window covered by a blind with a piece of wood covering the whole window and a whole for the duct. Also will the passive intakes be enough or will i have to add an active intake (more to pay out).

Am i making any sense if so the advice would be appreciated because the one thing i know little about is ventilation.

You will need at least an extract if your groom is running 27c on a cool day.

also watch out for your passive vents as they can produce hermies through light leaks. and they need to be equal or greater area than your extract hole(4" extract= 2x2" holes or 4x1")

If you are gonna be using a fan & filter combo check out growell and look at the faq and it gives a nifty idea for making a remote box for your filter and fan (silence is golden). about venting out your window, don't even think about it if your not using a filter and if you are still think carefully(filters wear out and people have noses) and think about using one of those things you use for tumble dryers which let you clamp the output in a window(i'm not sure you'll get what i mean but good luck).

Other things- have the extract point at the top so heat is extracted efficiently, think about using acoustic ducting if you sleep in the same room as your groom and think about using a quieter fan( s&p from geezzaa growlights are the quietest available other than expensive acoustic fans). good luck

hmm ok - if you want to get technical - extraction fans are measured by how many cubic feet (or whatever) they vent in a certain time.You have to measure up your grow room and go from there - although - I would rate airflow more than "new air".

Unless your room is sealed, "new air" will probably take care of itself. Just open the door/lid for an hour or so once a day and it should be fine. Moving air will strengthen your stalks and stop CO2 accumulating under the leaves.

So - buy a few quiet osc fans - and vent thru a duct with an inline fan (if u can afford).

i have plenty of airflow around the room. For £40 from starlite i can get ducting and an inline fan.

seeing as you didn't answer any of the questions i asked you that would allow me to help you. you can work it out yourself. just fuckin watch out for the stench if your venting to outside the building!(carbon filter!, Ozone, ONA blocks/gel/liquid(google it!))

I did most of my growing in an attic so ventilation was never much of a problem, along with cooling.

My best advice would be to measure it dude - not point tackling a problem that isn't there. Beg steal or borrow one of those directional gun thermometers and check out what the story really is.

i have a min max thermomator(min 17 max 30) it was quite a warm day yesterday so i gave it a test. i could hook up a cool tube to my hps and get some smell blocks from starlite. or was thinking of putting the inline fan just above my hps and running the ducting out the window (using all the smell hiding stuff) i spose i have a few weeks to sort things out as they're in the propagator at the moment.

My 5 passive vents are at the bottom (and i've checkeed for light leaks) I'm guessing with the inline fan and a 10" oscilating fan, plus the passives i should have pretty good airflow, my mate owes me £60 and she get's paid a week on thursday so I'll get it all then along with some lamp hangers.

Anything else i need.

My growroom is a grow tent built out of reflective sheeting, it is sealed with a long strip of velcro which keeps light in/out I am growing with the hps as i found the enviro doesn't cover enough space I could switch to MH but i should get decent results from the HPS.

Btw 36 hours and 4 out of 5 have germinated. I will also start a thread on outdoor growing as two are going outside.
