2) i only have three females so would doing a scrog increase yield.
3)i still haven't been able to get hold of a oscillating fan in the meantime will they be alrite or will the heat cause a problem if its static.

3:yes. i really don't know how the fuck you didn't find a fan in plymouth. i'm sure you could sprint in to your nearest office building, grab one, sprint out and still not get arrested. did you try argos and staples?

shit didn't try argos i think the problem is is that this time of year nobody buys fans thats why they don't stock them until the whether warms up.

Hi mate, 600 is the way to go, I am currently using a 400 due to space issues but 600 is nice.
1) Usually between 12/24 inches is best but without a cooltube or fan to remove heat you will be about 2/3 ft away. best thing to do is hang a thermometer on a bit of string from your reflector just above the canopy, then you can see the temp at canopy and adjust your light accordingly.
2) Scrog will increase yield but is work intensive if done right. If you put small holes on the top of your plant pots you can do some inventive tying down, easier to adjust if required, i do this and get good results (see avatar).
3) Oscilating fans are a requirement, not only for moving heat of the canopy but also for stem strength and all round vigour the air has to move around the plants HOWEVER growing without one can be done, heat will be the biggest problem as 600s get HOT, dont totally discount a 400 watt, I smoke hard and it keeps me self sufficient.

should i trim the branches off and have one big cola or will it do any harm to let it side branch also looking at the plants there starting to take on a more sativa appearance how long should i flower for.

Let it branch, I try and have the Cola plus 4 or 6 branches, any that are low down get chopped, this is best done before going 12/12, I also chop off leaves right at the bottom as well, they tend to yellow and may be a disease magnet.
I would also advise investing in some Gnat Off liquid, fungus gnats are a pain in the arse when soil growing, they can cause quite alot of harm if left as the larvae feed on the roots, these tend to appear in 12/12. For first grows its probably best not to chop too much away from the plant, just study it and get to know its habits, it will stand you in good stead for future grows.

yeah i did remove the bottom leaves as they went all yellow and dry i've cut a few branches already for cuttings (which still havn't rooted)

went to argos today got my fan, had to tape the reflective sheeting up as it blew off this grow is going rely well, thanks for the help everyone i'm sure my plants would be long dead if it wasn't for you lot. i may even send a sample of my tomatos to a few of you if i get enough.
